Obama plans to fill the void left by Scalia
Antonin Scalia, the influential conservative and most provocative member of Supreme Court, has died, leaving the court withouth its conservative majority, and setting up an ideological confrontation over his successor in a presidential election year.
President Barak Obama immediately announced his plan to nominate a candidate to fill the void left on the Supreme Court when the longest serving memeber passed away.
With a half-dozen or more major cases pending before court, Obama said he planned "to fulfill my constitutional responsibility to nominate a successor in due time."
Justice Scalia was considered the leader of a conservative intellectual renaissance in his three decade long tenure on the Supreme Court. He was 79.
